La
guerra limítrofe que sostuvieran Colombia y Perú
en la década de los años 30 del siglo XX es el
telón de fondo que utiliza el autor para
narrarnos una saga familiar donde se desentrañan
un héroe familiar y uno nacional.
A través de varias entrevistas que sostienen el
narrador, que investiga aspectos de la guerra
para escribir un libro, y su tío Julio César,
potentado pero ya retirado del mundo de los
negocios por enfermedad, y la utilización de
diversos recursos narrativos, el autor devela el
conflicto familiar y el conflicto internacional.
La novela contiene correspondencia, fragmentos
de libros, testimonios, a través de una
narración fluida en la que se descubre el país
en un discurrir de más de 60 años de historia.
Con la muerte del tío entrevistado, pareciera
quedar trunco el propósito del narrador de
escribir un gran libro. Pero lo escribe. Es algo
que el lector sabrá descubrir al terminar la
lectura de la novela.

The
bordering war that Colombia and Peru held in the
decade of the 30´s of the twentieth century is
the scenario that the author uses to narrate a
familiar saga where a family hero and a national
hero are uncovered.
Through several interviews sustained by the
narrator –who investigates aspects of the war in
order to write a book-- with his uncle Julio
César, a magnate retired from the business world
due to illness, and with the use of diverse
narrative resources, the author reveals the
family and the international conflicts.
The novel contains correspondence, book
fragments and testimonies, through a fluid
narration in which the country is unveiled in
the course of more than sixty years of its
history. With the death of the interviewed uncle,
the purpose of the narrator to write a great
book seems to be truncated. But he writes it
nonetheless. This, the reader will discover in
the culmination of the novel.

Der Grenzkrieg zwischen Kolumbien
und Peru in den 1930er Jahren ist das Szenario,
in dem der Autor eine Familiensaga erzählt, in
der die Charaktere eines Familienhelden und
eines Nationalhelden ergründet werden.
Mit zahlreichen Interviews, die der Erzähler mit
seinem Onkel Julius César, einem kranken
pensioniertem Groβindustriellen,
führt, verfolgt er das Vorhaben, ganz
verschiedene Aspekte des Krieges zu erforschen.
So entsteht ein sensationelles Buch über einen
Konflikt innerhalb einer Familie und
gleichzeitig über den Krieg zwischen den beiden
Ländern.
Der Roman besteht neben der
flüssigen Erzählung aus Briefen, Buchfragmenten
und Zeugenaussagen, die dem Leser Einblick in 60
Jahre Geschichte Kolumbiens gewähren.
Mit dem Tod des interviewten
Onkels scheint das Vorhaben, ein Buch über den
Krieg zu schreiben, gescheitert. Doch der Leser
wird am Ende eines anderen belehrt.
